Shawnee Mission Environmental Science Lab Field Trip with Deep Roots KC Staff

Friday, September 20, 2024, 1:00pm

Since the late 1960s, the Shawnee Mission School District has offered its students unique learning experiences in natural areas. Shawnee Mission South established the Shawnee Mission Environmental Science Lab (SMESL), a 22-acre campus that includes a woodland, prairie, pond, and trails situated along Indian Creek.

This is your chance to get in and see what the space is all about! Join us to learn how SMESL is a part of the District’s sustainability efforts. Following this overview, Cydney Ross, Deep Roots’ Outdoor Education Program Manager, will lead a nature tour of the site. P.J. Born, Deep Roots Land Manager for SMESL (and retired Environmental Education Teacher) will talk about student learning opportunities and involvement in the lab.
