New Work in Environmental Design and Protection

Working from the North Carolina Piedmont, landscape architect Preston Montague moves between building landscapes, providing environmental education, and working with area municipalities to apply lessons learned from gardening to municipal ordinances that regulate the design of our every day spaces. Of principal importance to his eponymous studio is the design of habitat and the deployment of native plants in pursuit of narrative-rich, serviceful, and evocative landscapes. Join Preston for a survey of his most impactful native plant-focused projects that celebrate the familiar habitats he’s encountered over two decades of hiking the wilds of North Carolina. Along the way, he’ll share insights into scaling lessons learned in gardens to restoration projects and larger-scale landscapes. Designed for home gardeners, designers, environmental organizations, and municipal employees, this presentation explores how environmental design and outreach can help people advance biophilic solutions at home and beyond.
