Keeping it Green—Designing and Planning for Green Infrastructure Maintenance
The City of Lancaster, PA has been installing and maintaining green infrastructure practices including rain gardens, porous pavements, green roofs, and constructed wetlands for over a decade, and has learned key lessons in developing a successful maintenance program that prioritizes monthly visual inspections, routine maintenance, and asset management to ensure designed infiltration rates and ecological health after years of use. In this session, the City’s Green Infrastructure Asset Coordinator will discuss design considerations, long term maintenance planning, staffing and equipment investments, and lessons learned in the field that are now working to maintain 400 (and growing!) green infrastructure practices throughout the city.
